The Hateful 8

The Hateful 8 –A few years after the Civil War, John Ruth (Kurt Russell), is a bounty hunter taking in Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) for the $10,000 bounty on her head. Their stagecoach is waylaid by another bounty hunter. Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson) with three dead bodies worth about $8,000 total joins them. A blizzard forces them to stop at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a Wyoming bar/rest place, before they get to Red Rock. Here, they meet several nasty characters and the story begins to unfold, starting in the middle.

Russell, channeling John Wayne playing a bad-ass, keeps Daisy’s eye black and her nose bloodied. Great acting from Jackson to Leigh, who is sooo good, to Channing Tatum, Daisy’s brother, to Tim Roth, the little guy, to Walton Goggins, the hillbilly sheriff.

Almost three hours running time, it doesn’t drag. Quentin Tarantino knows how to hold your attention while moving slowly and backs it up with a first class soundtrack. There is an overuse of the N word. There is a lot of blood and I mean a lot. Some disgusting stuff. I kept my eyes covered through quite a few scenes. It’s Q at his finest. If you can handle the violence including a full frontal male nudity scene, you’ll enjoy this.
