The Danish Girl

The Danish Girl – At first, it’s just an in love, young, married couple trying to start a family. Both are artists. Gerda (Alicia Vikander) asks Einar (Eddie Redmayne) to pose as her subject, wearing women’s clothes. It awakens a long repressed feeling in him and his alter ego Lily begins to emerge.

Gerda stands by her man as doctors repeatedly tell Einar/Lily he’s perverted or insane and want to commit him. Finally they find a doctor who understands and offers to perform a life-changing surgery – possibly the first ever transgender operation.

The setting in Copenhagen in the mid-1920s is exquisite; the soft pale colors of their apartment and studio are tastefully perfect. Eddie Redmayne makes a beautiful, sexy woman. He is Lily. Ms. Vikander also gives an award-winning performances.
