Me And Earl And The Dying Girl

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl – With a drama mama (Connie Britton) and a weird dad (Nick Offerman) – a sociology professor who lives in his bathrobe – Greg (Thomas Mann) can’t help but be somewhat unusual. He describes himself as terminally awkward, trying to stay invisible and just survive his last year of high school. Best friend Earl is a stereotypical black kid who’s pretty cool except he gets to say that white girls are the dumbest girls. Greg and Earl make movies like “A Sockwork Orange” and “2:48 PM Cowboy” which gives you a sense of the slightly warped humor here.

When Rachel (Olivia Cooke) is diagnosed with leukemia, Greg’s mom makes him spend time with her. They end up helping each other. Rachel’s mom Denise (played wonderfully well by Molly Shannon) stays a little tipsy all the time.

It’s what’s known as a “coming of age” story and it’s good. Really good. Some life lessons and yes, there’s a death in it, hence the name.
