John Wick

John Wick – One of the coolest action movies I’ve seen since Taken. John Wick (Keanu Reeves) kicks major butt and he does it with major style. His wife has just died and she leaves him with a dog to help him get over his grief. He’s got a fast car and a heavy foot. Some Russian thugs – one (Alfie Allen) who has done nothing to earn his swagger other than be the son of Viggo (Michael Nyvquist), top New York Russian mobster – break into his house when he won’t sell his car to them, beat him up, steal his car, and, whoa, kill his dog.

Wick used to work for Viggo and his name strikes fear into the heart of all who knew him and well it should. He can take out ten, 12, maybe 15, men and look good doing it. Then he calls Waste Disposal to clean up. It’s violent, it’s bloody – I had to close my eyes during a lot of it – but it’s pretty darn funny, too. Sometimes hysterically so.

Others adding their talents include Willem Dafoe as Marcus, hit man and friend to Wick, until he’s offered $2 million to kill him; John Leguizamo as Aurelio, owner of a chop shop; Ian McShane as Winston, owner of the Continental Hotel; Dean Winters is Viggo’s right hand man; Adrianne Palicki as Ms. Perkins, watch her and Wick engage in hand to hand combat – she’s almost as tough as he is; and Lance Reddick as Charron, manager of the Continental – loved him.

Part “The Expendables”, part “James Bond” – I can’t wait for John Wick Two although there aren’t too many folks left for the sequel. John Wick is almost perfect as the super hero if only he were a couple inches taller.
