Words and Pictures – Jack Marcus (Clive Owen) is an English Honors teacher. “Mr. Mark” to his students. He looks like the perfect professor, he wears corduroy jackets and pants. He has a bit of an alcohol problem. Dina Delsanto (Juliette Binoche) is the new arts teacher. She tries to hide her rheumatoid arthritis. Both of them push their students to become more. His drinking has him on the edge of losing his job so he comes up with a challenge – which has more value, words or pictures.

They are obviously attracted to each other. She tries to ignore it, he wants to advance it. They end up in bed. Then he tells her that the poem he published as his in the school newspaper was actually written by his son.

Owen is highly appealing and Binoche is so French – they have chemistry. Even though you know how it’s going to turn out, it’s done very well.
