American Hustle

American Hustle –  Director David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook) has done it again.  It’s a shame some of the nominations for awards are out already because I kept thinking – Amy is the best, no Christian is, no Bradley is, and no Jennifer is.  The acting is fantastic.  It’s different, it’s funny, it’s filled with  crazy characters.

Con artist extraordinaire Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) meets up with Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) and together they are even better.  FBI Agent Richie DeMaso (Bradley Cooper) wants them to help him get even bigger fish.  They cast a small net and soon the ocean explodes with politicians and mafia-types that DeMaso wants to bring down.  But Irving ends up liking the Mayor (Jeremy Renner) and doesn’t want to see him indicted.  There’s a sting within a sting.  Robert DeNiro has an uncredited role as Victor Tellegio, crime boss.

Set in 1978, the men’s clothes are just as awful as we remember. The women’s clothes are much better, maybe because they have Amy Adams and J. Law in them.  Both are sexy, sizzling, and plain gorgeous.  Cooper is curly haired and you wouldn’t recognize Bale unless you knew it was him.    Good, good movie.
