About Time

About Time – A delightful British romantic comedy with a quirky family.  Tim Lake (Domhnall Gleeson) finds out on his 21st birthday that all the men in his family can time travel.  There are restrictions but overall they can go back and change the outcome of things.  How cool is that?  Tim is a dorky, gangly red- haired guy who ends up meeting Mary-same-name-as-his-mother (Rachel McAdams).  Immediately smitten, he has to erase her in order to save the play of his father’s friend.  Time conspires so that they meet again and he charms her with intelligence and wit.   Smart and funny can beat good looks.

Most of this is light and fun with a couple of life’s issues thrown in – sister has a nasty boyfriend and almost dies in a auto accident.  Tim ends up learning that it’s best to enjoy each day as it comes and let the future take care of itself.  Bill Nighy is fantastic as dad, and Rachel McAdams is cute as pie.   Set in England, the family home is on the beach in Cornwall – oh my, you just want to go there.  Nice soundtrack. Good date movie.
