Gravity – At the beginning you’re just hanging out in space enjoying the out of this world scenery along with retiring astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) and Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock).  A Russian satellite collides with their shuttle.  In a jiffy, Ryan is literally hanging by a thread.  When she realizes what a predicament she’s in, you  really expect to hear her start saying “Our Father, which art in Heaven….”

They get back to the shuttle, everyone else is dead.  After that it’s all up to Dr. Stone.  She goes through losing Matt, flying debris, fire in the cockpit and is still determined.  Then a fire starts.  How much more can she handle?

Bullock’s reactions are exactly what you think yours would be if in that situation.  For instance, she’s yelling “Stop, stop” as a flying object comes at her when there’s no way just words can stop it.  When she resigns herself to death, at first she cries – wouldn’t we all? – and then she accepts it.  In the end, it’s kind of a metaphor for life – whatever your circumstance, it’s a hell of a ride.

Pretty cool movie.  The graphics and views are wonderful.  A starry starry night in the galaxy, the crust of the earth, heavenly sun, and shimmering ocean.  Even though the 3D charge is outrageous, it may be worth it here.
