White House Down

White House Down – John Cale (Tatum Channing) wants so much to be a Secret Service agent, presidential detail, he kind of lies to his pouty-lipped daughter, Emily (Joey King) while accompanying her on a White House tour.   Then all hell breaks loose and he gets his chance to protect President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx) from his own department head Martin Walker (James Woods).  Walker is suffering from a brain tumor and wants to get revenge for his son having been killed in a messed up mission.

Channing and Foxx are pretty good together.  Maggie Gyllenhaal is Carol Finnerty who turns Cale down when he first applied for the job of SS agent.  Richard Jenkins is Speaker of the House who thinks he’s going to be president.  Computer hacker Tyler (Jimmi Simpson) and tour guide (Nicolas Wright) are both excellent.

This has action and over the top humor. The  White House was recreated to make the movie as authentic as possible – loved the kitchen. It’s a  lot like Olympus but better and funnier.  And there’s The Beast, an amazing car that takes a licking and keeps on ticking.  The movie is  also two and a half hours long which seems to be the norm these days, just like loud music everywhere you go, whether you want it or not.  It ends with flag waving heroics and a great American feel.  Just the picture for a 4th of July holiday.
