Olympus Has Fallen

Olympus Has Fallen – Less than two years after Secret Service Agent and former Ranger Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) is blamed for not saving the First Lady’s (Ashley Judd) life, the White House is attacked.  A group of highly organized, highly trained and heavily armed terrorists quickly kill hundreds of American citizens and take over the White House, holding the President (Aaron Eckhart) and his staff hostage in a bunker.  One man, Agent Banning,  is able to slip inside and communicate with those in charge – acting president Speaker Trumbull (Morgan Freeman), SS Director (Angela Bassett), Gen. Clegg (Robert Forster) and others on the national security team.  Banning takes out one bad guy after another.  One time, he’s shielding the president’s son Connor and holds off five or six machine-gun-wielding dudes with only a pistol.

Both Freeman and Bassett play calm and cool while the hotheaded General Clegg wants to kick some ass the old fashioned American way.  Thing is, he doesn’t quite understand that he’s up against an extremely controlled crazy man who has meticulously planned to destroy the United States.

If you have a weak heart, you might want to sit this one out.  Intense does not begin to describe it.  And let’s all pray that life does not imitate this particular art.  It hits way too close to home.
