Broken City

Broken City –  Seven years after cop Billy Taggart (Mark Wahlberg) is somewhat cleared of  a murder charge,  NYC mayor (Russell Crowe) hires the now private investigator to find out who is sleeping – he uses another word – with his wife (Catherine Zeta-Jones).   Billy soon finds that’s not the real reason but he’s not sure what is.  Crowe is perfect as the smiling, oily politician who wants to control his town and his people.  He looks younger, blonder, and more fit than in Les Miz.

Paul Andrews (Kyle Chandler) is campaign manager for the mayor’s opponent and Carl Fairbanks (Jeffrey Wright)  is the police commissioner who gets to deliver the best line at the end.   Alona Tol plays Katy,  Billy’s impertinent yet loyal assistant.   There’s a movie within the movie that adds nothing to the storyline other than to show off Billy’s girlfriend played by Natalie Martinez.

Includes violence, nudity, and language.  Overall, I  liked the story a lot.
