The Cold Light of Day

The Cold Light of Day – I had no idea what this movie was about, just went to see it because it starred Bruce Willis.  He’s killed off in the first 10 minutes or so and I kept waiting for it to be a mistake.  Will Shaw (Henry Cavill-he’s English yet looks very Spanish here and could not possibly be the child of Bruce Willis and the blonde lady who plays his wife in this movie) meets the whole family for a sailing vacation.  While Will is taking a short side trip to get medicine after a slight accident he caused,  the family is kidnapped.  It seems dad Martin Shaw/Bruce was actually a spy instead of a business consultant for the government and he has something valuable in a briefcase that’s now missing.  The kidnappers want it and go after Will – they’re Israeli terrorists or something like that.  Will also finds out he has a stepsister – not only did dad have a secret job, he had a secret family, too.

The last third of the movie is nothing but a chase.  Sigourney Weaver (Jean, Martin’s partner) just will not give up.  She’s this ice-in-her-veins-cold-blooded killer and is the best part of the movie.  Cavill is supposed to play Superman sometime soon after missing out on Batman and Spiderman.  And I’m going to see Bruce in Looper.
