The Odd Life of Timothy Green

The Odd Life of Timothy Green- A sweet little story about a couple, Cindy (Jennifer Garner) and Jim Green (Joel Edgerton), who after trying for years to have a baby are told it’s not ever going to happen.  They then make up a list of the attributes their child would have, put the list in a wooden box and plant it in their backyard garden.  Following a downpour that only happens at their home, a 10-year-old boy appears.  He’s covered in mud and has leaves growing on his legs.

Timothy (CJ Adams) is an adorable, outgoing, loving child who calls Cindy & Jim mom and dad from the get-go.   He’s intelligent, a klutz when it comes to sports (he scores a goal for the other team)  and makes everyone feel better just being around him.  When Uncle Bub teasingly asks “Did you know I invented the PBJ sandwich?”, Timothy immediately responds with “Did you know I’m a big fan of your work?”

The Greens live in the small town of Stanleyville, NC, home to a pencil factory.  Part of the movie was shot in Asheville at the Biltmore Estate.  Some of the prettiest foliage you’ve ever seen.  There is a very sad scene toward the end which could make you cry a little.  Maybe not as much as the two little boys in the Utube video.  To me, though, the saddest thing was the way Jennifer Garner dressed – not sure why her clothes were so awfully dowdy.  This is the kind of movie you may prefer to watch at home when it goes to dvd.
