The Five Year Engagement

The Five Year Engagement – Jason Segel is Tom and Emily Blunt is Violet.  Flash back to when they first met a year ago, he proposes on anniversary and it looks like they’re all set for happily ever after.  Things get in the way of the wedding, she gets a great job in Michigan, he gives up his seconds-later great job in San Francisco to follow her.  They postpone the wedding for two years, grandparents die, etc.  For all intents and purposes, they are married,  they just haven’t made it official. That kept getting in the way for me as to what the big deal was.

There are lots of crazy characters here, family, friends, etc.  This one lady, I swear I thought was Angela Lansbury – you know “Murder, She Wrote” but it wasn’t.  The movie is way too long although it has lots of laughs.  Chris Pratt as Tom’s best friend Alex is kind of cool most of the time and yet he has his disgusting moments.  Violet has an encounter with her professor. Tom has an encounter with a co-worker.  They break up, go separate ways.  Blah, blah.  The ending is really fun so you walk away smiling.

I’m suggesting waiting on dvd for this one.
