Mirror, Mirror

Mirror, Mirror – This is an updated version of the fairy tale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  Julia Roberts may not be the fairest any more, but she is pretty funny with clever, caustic remarks as the evil queen out to make Snow (White) fall.  She uses her trademark laugh minus the snort a couple of times.   The lovely Snow (Lily Collins) is quite capable of looking out for herself even after having spent most of her 18 years locked in the basement.  Nathan Lane (Brighton) is delightful as the queen’s “executive bootlicker.” Armie Hammer seems kind of a weak Prince Alcott of Valencia and is so like Jim Carrey in the Ace Ventura movies, especially when he’s under the puppy love potion spell.

The Seven Dwarfs are the scene stealers with names like Wolf, Chuck, and Grimm instead of Sleepy, Sneezy and Dopey.  They wear bellows so as to make themselves appear to be giants when out in the forest robbing and generally scaring folks.

It may be a way of teaching young girls that while marrying a prince is a good thing, you should learn to take care of yourself first.
