Friends with Kids

Friends with Kids – Another variation of best friends not realizing that friendship is the best basis for marriage.  Here six 30-something friends, consisting of two married couples and one best friend couple, start out as ever so witty with excruciatingly frank discussions and overlapping banter.  The friend couple discovers that after their married friends have kids, romance and sex are kicked to the curb so they decide to have a kid together and just stay friends. It appears to work for a while as the married couples look on in astonishment and jealousy.

I’m not that familiar with Jennifer Westfeldt, but she wrote, directed and starred in this.  I thought only Clint Eastwood could do all of those three things well, and I’m sticking with that thought.  Jon Hamm has this drunk scene where he becomes brutally honest – alcohol does that sometimes, not that I have that much experience with it – which is probably the best scene in the movie.

It takes a long time but of course it winds up just like you knew all along that it would.  There’s a good ensemble cast in addition to Hamm…Adam Scott, Maya Rudolph, Chris O’Dowd, Megan Fox.
