One For The Money

One For The Money – If you’re a fan of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum books, you know that Joe Morelli and Ranger are two of the hottest guys around.  In the movie they (Jason O’Mara and Daniel Sunjato, respectively) are a few degrees below that.  Don’t get me wrong, I think they’re alright, but my imagination had them looking like Matthew McConnaughey and a straight Ricky Martin.  Katherine Heigl is Stephanie Plum who ends up becoming a “recovery agent” aka bounty hunter when she loses her lingerie sales job.  Seemed like a logical progression to me.  She also loses her little red sports car.  If she nails Joe Morelli, the guy who “nailed” her at 17, she can make $50K.  Morelli is an ex-cop accused of killing an unarmed man.

The first  half to three-fourths of the show it feels like everyone is just playing around being caricatures of themselves.  Debbie Reynolds is the over the top grandma.  John Leguizamo as the eventual bad guy Jimmy Alpha does the best acting.  Fisher Stevens plays a  bounty hunter, too. (Isn’t he the son of Eddie Fisher and Connie Stevens?)  Unless you just need a really light nothing kind of movie, my recommendation is stick to the books and wait until it comes out on dvd and you’ll probably enjoy it much more at home.
