The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo- English version.  The Swedish version of the bestselling book by Stieg Larrson was great, and so is this, plus Daniel Craig looks more like Mikhail Blomkvist than the Swede actor did.  If you haven’t read the book, which is one of the best written books ever, it’s the story of Blomkvist, a journalist who after having lost his credibility for not getting back-up evidence against a wealthy industrialist, gets hired by a wealthy CEO  (Christopher Plummer) of the Vanger Corp. to help solve the 40-year-old mystery of who killed his granddaughter.  Vanger knows it was someone in his anti-Semitic family  who did it, just not sure which.   It’s also the story of Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara), a genius computer hacker mislabeled as insane by social services.  When her legal guardian suffers a stroke, she’s put in the hands of a sadistic pig.  But Lisbeth is not to be dallied with – the girl can take care of herself.

Blomkvist and Salander make a formidable team as they uncover the Vanger family secrets and delve into a sick world of crimes against women.  There is graphic sexual violence but it never seems gratuitous.  It’s chilling, sometimes creepy, and always fascinating.  Was not thrilled though with Lisbeth’s hairstyle, not as uber cool and off kilter as it should have been.  References are made as to why Salander is the way she is, but that’s another story – The Girl Who Played With Fire.
