Our Idiot Brother

Our Idiot Brother – Paul Rudd (remember him as Phoebe’s boyfriend Mike on Friends) does a really good job as the too trusting, innocent Ned. He takes everyone at face value. For instance, he sells weed to a uniformed cop because he believed the cop when he said he was having a bad week, and he tells his parole officer he got high because he thought he’d understand. The story line is not outstanding but he’s such a likable character as brother to three sisters – one is married to a jerk, one is sort of gay, and one is a career type – played by Emily Mortimer, Zooey Deschanel, and Elizabeth Banks. All are having challenges in their life and all do a great job in the movie. There’s a tiny scene with his nephew on a trampoline that reminds you of one in The Blind Side.
This was a Sundance film. It has kind of a warm, fuzzy, lots of profanity, 60’s hippie feel about it. And a Willie Nelson soundtrack. You can’t go wrong with that now, can you.
