Kung Fu Panda II

Po is liking being Dragon Warrior – he’s got all the Kung Fu moves down but hasn’t quite got that Inner Peace thing. Then he has a vision and realizes that just maybe his dad, the goose, could not really have fathered him. Next he has to go take care of the baddest peacock ever who wants to destroy Kung Fu and China – maybe even the world – with his gigantic cannon. This is the same peacock who supposedly exterminated all the giant pandas, including Po’s real parents.

Throughout it all, he has his trusty sidekicks voiced by some major names (Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, etc.) It’s an overly complicated plot and not quite as funny as KFP 1. Three bratty little boys behind us, age 6 to 9, said “That’s stupid” a couple of times – they had been dumped by their parents for the afternoon. Somehow I think they would have enjoyed it more if mom and dad had been with them.

It all ends nicely and is especially good for adopted kids. The very end shows a city of giant pandas including Po’s biological dad leaving one to think there’s gonna be a KFP3!
