The Tourist

It appears that Angelina Jolie (Elise Ward) is going to make a man out of Johnny Depp (Frank Tupelo) by changing him from a meek, mild-mannered math teacher into the kind of guy she wants, but he may have some surprises in store for her. They meet on a train, thanks to Alexander Pierce, who has stolen billions from a crime boss, and Elise sets about setting Frank up. You get to see how the top 2% live – a hotel suite in Venice that probably costs more for one night than many people make in a month, where Frank, in the understatement of the year, says something like “This is a really nice room.”
It’s a quiet movie. By that, I mean there’s only a couple of killings and they’re not gory. You get lots of close-ups of the sinfully gorgeous Ms. Jolie. She channels Sophia Loren in one part, wearing an off-the-shoulder black gown , a four-inch wide diamond choker and an upswept hairdo. (Can you channel someone who’s still living?) I liked it, good ending.
